None to be allowed to hold protests under AL banner: CA press secretary

Chief Adviser Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has said none will be allowed to hold protests under the banner of fallen Awami League (AL).
"Anyone dares to hold illegal protests under AL banner will face full power of the law," he wrote a post on his verified Facebook account today.
Since it took over in early August, he said, the interim government has not stopped or banned any lawful protests. "We believe in freedom of assembly and freedom of association," he said.
The press secretary said one report this morning showed that at least 136 protests took place alone in Dhaka in the past five and a half months.
"Some of these protests triggered massive traffic congestion. Yet, the interim government has never imposed any restrictions on the protests," he said.

BGB, BSF chiefs are to meet in Delhi next month

The directors general (DGs) of Bangladeshi and Indian border guards are to join a four-day meeting in New Delhi next month when Bangladesh side would seek some “uneven agreements” to be scrapped and discuss other border related issues.
“The DG level meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) will be held in the Indian capital New Delhi from February 17 to 20,” Home Adviser retired lieutenant general Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said today.
He said Bangladeshi side would seek to cancel “some uneven agreements” related to border management alongside and discuss other related issues.
According to the adviser the other issues include killing of Bangladesh nationals on border areas, infiltrations of Indian nationals, common rivers, and smuggling of weapons and drugs, arms, ammunition and explosive into Bangladesh.

Natl Zoo to be modernized for visitors: Farida

Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today said that the Bangladesh National Zoo will be modernized for the people.
"Bangladesh National Zoo will be modernized for the people. The master plan for the development of the zoo will be implemented in phases," she said at a meeting on current status and future plans of Bangladesh National Zoo" at the Interpretation Center on Zoo premises in city Mirpur area as the chief guest.
The adviser asked the authority concerned to make necessary arrangements on the construction of walls for zoo security, resolving the shortage of manpower and other related issues.

Khaleda Zia wishes to return home soon: Zahid Hossain

BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who is currently in London at her eldest son Tarique Rahman residence after receiving treatment for 17 days at London Clinic, is eagerly waiting to return home, said her personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain.
"Madam physical condition is very stable now. She is eager to return to the country. Yesterday, she also said, Let us return to Bangladesh quickly. The country is a good place for us," Dr Zahid told a doa mahfil organized by the UK chapter of Jubo Dal, marking the death anniversary of Begum Zia youngest son, Arafat Rahman.
The prayers were held at Brick Lane Mosque in East London after Isha prayers on Tuesday (London time).
