Rain brings relief to city dwellers

Relief ensued among the residents of Dhaka as intermittent rain triggered by the active monsoon since Friday morning drenched parts of the capital, reports UNB.
Ten millimetres of rainfall was recorded in the past six hours till 1:00 pm on Friday, according to BMD special bulletin.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains or thundershowers are likely to occur in Dhaka and its neighbouring areas in the next few hours.

The e-passport services for Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia have been inaugurated at the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh.
SM Rakibullah, Charge d Affaires of the Embassy, presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Besides, officials and the technical team of the e-passport project from Dhaka were present at the ceremony.
The e-passport program was inaugurated with the participation of expatriate dignitaries, professionals, media personnel, and a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis who joined with huge enthusiasm at the Embassy auditorium.

BGMEA decided to open all factories from Sunday

The garment factory owners on Saturday decided to shut down their production units from tomorrow under “no work no pay” policy for an indefinite period if the labour unrest continues further.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) announced this after a view exchange meeting of owners, advisers to the interim government and union leaders at the BGMEA office in Dhaka.
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) also supported the decision of the BGMEA.
BGMEA president Khandaker Rafiqul Alam presided over the function.
Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhter and Labor and Employment Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuyian were present as special guests. Among others, Labor Secretary A H M Safiquzzaman, Major General Md. Moin Khan, National Garments Workers Federation President Amirul Haque Amin, Bangladesh Garments and Industries Labor Federation General Secretary Babul Akhter, Garments Workers Trade Union Centre President Mantu Ghosh, Garments Workers Oikka Forum President Mosharraf Mishu spoke.
Anyone attempting to shut down factories to destabilise the government and harm the economy will be remembered, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan said. He, however, did not provide further details about the special measures.

Italy to resolve outstanding work visa issue at early date: envoy

Rome has assured to put its effort to resolve the outstanding work visa for Bangladeshi nationals at an early date and cooperate further to curb irregular migration along with promote legal pathways for skills mobility from Bangladesh to Italy,
The assurance was made while Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh paid a courtesy call on newly appointed Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin at the foreign ministry here today.
During the meeting, the envoy hoped that bilateral relations between the two friendly countries will be further strengthened in the coming days.
