Recovering MP Azim body almost impossible: DB chief
Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, the alleged mastermind in the murder of MP Anwarul Azim Anar, had been plotting for three months to kill MP Azim, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid.
Speaking at a press briefing in the capital on Thursday, he said the criminals took 30 minutes from 2.51pm on 13 May to kill the Bangladeshi MP.
Shimul Bhuiyan, a leader of the extremist organisation Purba Banglar Communist Party, was the main hitman, Harun said, adding that he had obtained a fake passport with the name Amanullah to disguise his identity.
According to the DB chief statement, Shahin, along with his cohorts, held a meeting in a Gulshan or Bashundhara residence and planned to kill MP Azim in Bangladesh but the accused feared they could get caught doing so.
