Tribunal acquits Dr Yunus in labour law violation case

Dhaka Labour Appellate Tribunal today acquitted Grameen Telecom Chairman and Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and three others in a case lodged for violation of labour law.
Labour Appellate Tribunal chairman MA Awal pronounced the judgment this afternoon.
Dhaka 3rd Labour Court on January 1, 2024, had convicted and sentenced six-month jail to Dr Muhammad Yunus, Grameen Telecom director and former managing director Md Ashraful Hasan, members of Board of Directors Nur Jahan Begum and Md Shahjahan.
Yunus, who is set to become the chief adviser to the interim government, will arrive in the country tomorrow.
"Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka on the Emirates flight (EK-582) from Dubai at 2:10 PM Dhaka time (GMT +6) on Thursday (8 August 2024) subject to flight being on time," a press release said.
