Govt takes steps for fast increasing dengue outbreak
Government takes fast initiatives after increasing the dengue outbreak including Dhaka and Chattogram city.
Ten teams from the Local Government Division (LGD) have been deployed to combat the rising dengue infection and fatality rates this month.
Formed on September 23 during an emergency meeting, these coordination and monitoring teams are working across the country, including Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), to curb the spread of dengue.
Out of the ten teams, four are operating in DSCC areas, three in DNCC, and one each in Narayanganj, Gazipur, and Chattogram City Corporation. A separate team has also been assigned to high-risk zones, including municipalities like Savar, Dohar, Tarabo, and Rupganj. Each team, comprising seven members led by LGD officials of additional secretary or joint secretary rank, collaborates with the chief executive officer of the respective city corporations or municipalities. These teams visit at least three dengue-prone areas daily to oversee and support dengue prevention efforts.
In addition to submitting detailed reports to the LGD data collection committee, the teams are actively raising public awareness, conducting cleaning operations, eliminating mosquito breeding grounds, and exterminating larvae and adult mosquitoes. Furthermore, 3,214 mosquito control workers are engaged in these campaigns across city corporations and high-risk municipalities.
