Govt to reduce fuel oil prices

The interim government has decided to reduce fuel oil prices from September, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has said.
Besides, in a move to control high inflation, the government has also decided to curb the BPC profits, due to which fuel oil prices are expected to decline further in the coming months.
According to the Energy Division and the BPC, octane and petrol prices will be reduced by Tk8 to Tk12 per litre.
Diesel and kerosene prices will be reduced from Tk1.5 to Tk1.75 per litre.

TSC now hub for flood relief efforts

For the third consecutive day, the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) at Dhaka University (DU) has been bustling with a mass relief collection drive for flood victims.
On Saturday afternoon, people are seen arriving from far and wide to donate whatever they can.
Relief materials, including puffed rice, biscuits, clean water, various types of dry food, clothes, oil, rice, salt, sanitary napkins, medicines, and saline, are being brought in by rickshaws and pickups. Many are also contributing cash donations.
Students have taken the lead as volunteers, managing various aspects of the relief operation. Some are meticulously tracking the cash donations, while others are busy sorting and organizing the food, clothing, and other items.
Zaki Tahmeed, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet), stayed up all night working as a volunteer.
He said: “I have never seen this kind of unity among people. People from all walks of life came here and we worked side by side all night to prepare the relief packages for the flood-affected people.”

Huawei introduces five new digital power products

Huawei has brought five advanced digital power products in Bangladesh at a ceremony held in the capital Huawei Bangladesh Academy. Top officials of Huawei Digital Power Department and its EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Constructions) partners in Bangladesh were present at the event.
The products include two inverters, two energy storage systems, and one AI-powered energy management assistant. The newly launched inverters are SUN2000-150K-MG0 and SUN2000-12-25KTL-MB0, and the energy storage systems are 2MWH ESS and LUNA2000-7/14/21-S1. EMMA-A02 has been introduced as the latest AI-powered energy management assistant. This new set of items will immensely help Bangladesh reach its energy goals.
At the event, Nixiaopeng, Managing Director of Digital Power at Huawei Bangladesh, said, “We are committed to bringing advanced technologies that exceed the evolving needs of our partners and customers. These five products come with state-of-the-art safety features and optimization for cost efficiency. We believe these products will further solidify the digital power sector in Bangladesh.”
The inverters come with advanced safety features. They have the industry first device safety PV ground-fault protection that cuts off ground faults within 15 milliseconds during grid connection, ensuring inverter safety. They also have smart connector temperature detection for real-time monitoring of connector temperature on both the DC and AC sides. This technology will prevent fire incidents with an automatic shutdown in 0.5 seconds if over-temperature is detected.
Additionally, the inverters offer active arc extinguishing for fire prevention with the highest level of AFCI arc protection. It extends the detection range up to 450 meters which is suitable for larger-scale C&I applications. The unique smart string-level disconnect feature allows for intelligent and fast disconnection, ensuring the safety of the DC side. These inverters also reduce total project costs by increasing output power by 50%.
Besides, the SUN2000-12-25KTL-MB0 is a residential hybrid inverter that offers higher power options of 12KW and 25KW, supporting 2 MPPTs/4 inputs and higher input currents of 30A/20A. It also provides a maximum discharge power of 13.2kW/25kW in hybrid scenarios, enhancing its versatility and efficiency.
The LUNA2000-7/14/21-S1 features a module+ architecture with pack-level independent optimization and a 5-layer safety protection system.
EMMA-A02, Huawei latest AI Energy Management Assistant, offers one-stop management and smart control of residential electrical devices, enhancing efficiency and user experience.
Huawei has been working on renewable energy sector in Bangladesh since 2021. Huawei has formed a dedicated team of 50 personnel to support Bangladesh green energy goals. In 2023, Huawei delivered a 100 MW Utility project for distribution to the national grid and Bangladesh largest and first-ever microgrid with a 22 MWh ESS capacity at Monpura Upazila. Also, Huawei successfully implemented more than 72 Solar Rooftop Projects with its partners.

Xiaomi Bangladesh Rolls Out Nationwide Umbrella Initiative for Traffic Police

Xiaomi Bangladesh has launched an initiative to distribute umbrellas to officers stationed across the country in a show of support for traffic police nationwide. This gesture aims to provide some comfort to the officers who tirelessly manage the bustling streets, often exposed to the sun and rain for extended periods. Xiaomi initiative acknowledges the vital service these officers provide and aims to show solidarity.
The umbrella giveaway event began on 13th August 2024 in the afternoon across multiple key traffic intersections in Dhaka, such as, Gulshan-1 circle, Gulshan-2 circle and Banani 11, with key participation from Xiaomi Bangladesh.
A total of 800 umbrellas will be distributed to the traffic police officers stationed across major cities, in front of shopping malls, mobile markets and key traffic signals in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh, Sylhet and North Bengal. This initiative is part of Xiaomi ongoing commitment to community engagement and social responsibility.
In this regard, Country Manager of Xiaomi Bangladesh, Mr. Ziauddin Chowdhury said, “At Xiaomi, we deeply value giving back to the community and supporting those who tirelessly serve the public. This umbrella giveaway is our way of expressing solidarity with the officers and students who are doing traffic duty day and night to ensure the safety and order of our country every day.”
