Govt plans to operate electric train service on Dhaka-Chattogram route

SANGSAD BHABAN: Railway Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan today said the government has a plan to operate electric train service on Dhaka-Chattogram route.
“Bangladesh Railway has been working for providing cost-effective safe and comfortable transport service to the people of the country”, he said while replying to a star-marked question made by treasury bench lawmaker M Mamunur Rashid Kiron of Noakhali-3 at the question-answer session tabled at the Jatiya Sangsad here.
To this end, the minister said the government has already taken a feasibility study project aiming to operate electric train service between the capital Dhaka and the commercial city Chattogram.

Over 13,000 vehicles run on elevated expressway

A total of 13,165 motor vehicles moved from Kawla to Farmgate through the Dhaka Elevated Expressway and gave over Tk 11,08,240 lakh as toll today.
"Dhaka Elevated Expressway was opened for public to ease traffic congestion in the capital . .. . the traffic movement through the expressway started at 6 am today," project director of the Elevated Expressway AHMS Akter told journalists.
"A total of Tk 11,08,240 was collected today," he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the much-awaited expressway HSIA-Farmgate section unveiling the inaugural plaque at the Old Trade Fair Ground at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar yesterday afternoon.

IGP given senior secretary status

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has been elevated to the rank of Senior Secretary.
The Public Administration Ministry issued a notification in this regard today amending his contractual terms and conditions.
According to the notification, Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been given the senior secretary status for a total period of one year and six months from January 12, 2023 to July 11, 2024 after revising the notification issued on January 9, 2023 regarding the contractual appointment.

PM inaugurates Dhaka Elevated Expressway

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today inaugurated the much-awaited 11.5-km Dhaka Elevated Expressway Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport-Farmgate section for traffic that is expected to significantly reduce the city traffic congestion.
She unveiled the nameplate of the expressway at Kawla end of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here. A munajat was later offered seeking welfare of the country and its people.
Earlier, the Prime Minister paid the toll at Kawla end where Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader received Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana on their arrival. After the inauguration, the colorful balloons were released.
