e-Quality Centre for Inclusive Innovation to help bridge digital divide: speakers

A seminar on the e-Quality Centre for Inclusive Innovation was held at the state guest house Padma, highlighting the concept and objective of the centre to be launched envisioning Zero Digital Divide.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a2i jointly organised the seminar on Saturday while Chairman of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker was present at the event as the chief guest, a press release said today.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin was present as the special guest at the seminar, which was attended by the members of the diplomatic corps based in Dhaka and officials of the relevant government organizations.

WHO urges swift action as dengue cases surge in Bangladesh

A significant surge in dengue fever cases has gripped Bangladesh, the UN World Health Organization (WHO) reported on Friday , calling for efforts to control the mosquito vector population and minimize individual exposure such as using mosquito repellents and wearing long-sleeved clothes.
The outbreak, which escalated rapidly since late June, has seen a total of 69,483 confirmed cases and 327 related deaths between January 1and August 7, with a case fatality rate of 0.47 per cent, according to the UN health agency. The cases were reported from all 64 districts in the country.
In July alone, 43,854 cases and 204 deaths were reported, accounting for 63 per cent of the total cases and 62 per cent of the deaths. The sharp increase in numbers is unprecedented compared to the past five years, emphasizing the gravity of the ongoing outbreak.

Saline to be imported if necessary: Health minister says as demand surges amid dengue outbreak

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Friday said that all saline manufacturing companies in the country have been asked to increase production to meet the current surge in demand caused by the dengue outbreak.
If necessary, the ministry has been instructed to import saline from abroad, Maleque said, seeking to reassure the medical community.
The health minister was inaugurating the foundation stone for construction work of a 1.5 kilometre paved road in Dhakuli area of Manikganj Sadar upazila on Friday afternoon.
Maleque also said that doctors and nurses are providing the best possible service in the hospitals.

India expects peaceful election in Bangladesh

NEW DELHI: India today expressed the hope that the upcoming general election in Bangladesh would be held peacefully.
Responding to a media query, India External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told a weekly media briefing here this afternoon that he does not have any particular comments on "internal development" there (Bangladesh).
"I think, I have spoken it last week...Look, I do not have really any particular comments on internal development there (Bangladesh)," he said.
On the issue of caretaker government, he declined to make comments on it saying those are Bangladesh international affairs. But he mentioned that the "Constitution of the country (Bangladesh) has a position on it".
