Huawei Embraces Commercial 5G-A for the Mobile AI Era
Huawei is attending MWC Shanghai 2024 under the banner of "Advancing the Intelligent World" and offering "Commercial 5G-A Experience Tours". At its booth, Huawei is showcasing its latest products and solutions that support both commercial 5G-A (Advance) deployment and AI (Artificial Intelligence) devices required for the mobile AI era.
Huawei has also announced that it has successfully reached six separate consensuses with pioneering 5G-A operators from around the world, and launched a joint initiative for high-quality mobile video development in the AI era alongside global operators, industry customers, and other relevant organizations. Over the next three days, Huawei is expected to meet with global operators and other industry players to discuss the development paths for F5G-A and Net5.5G.
In a keynote speech titled "Accelerating 5G-A and Shaping the Mobile AI Era" Huawei Executive Director of the Board and Chairman of the ICT Infrastructure Managing Board David Wang said, "2024 marks the beginning of the mobile AI era thanks to the commercial launch of 5G-A and other AI devices. These technologies will be the key to making intelligent services ubiquitous. This era will transform not only human-machine interaction, but also content production and mobile devices, and will revitalize society and create opportunities for the mobile industry. At Huawei, we will continue to accelerate 5G-A development from both the Networks for AI and the AI for Networks perspectives to create new business value."
The number of global 5G users has exceeded 1.8 billion, and many operators have already seen the first wave of benefits from 5G. Consumer services like New Calling, cloud phones, and glasses-free 3D have many higher network requirements, such as higher speed and lower latency. In terms of industrial services, the RedCap ecosystem has matured, passive IoT is now available to an even broader market, and Internet of Vehicles (IoV) applications require higher uplink speeds.
Leading operators around the world are already looking to capitalize on 5G-A. More than 30 operators have already completed 5G-A technical verification. There are nearly 20 mobile phone models on the market that can currently support multi-carrier aggregation, with a number of them supporting activating the feature by default. Around 10 operators have also already announced commercial 5G-A plans, which include the launch of 5G-A packages and other related services.
Together with global operators, industry professionals, and opinion leaders, Huawei will dive into exciting topics at this year MWC Shanghai, like how to amplify 5G success in the 5.5G era and how to tap into the potential of operator revenue growth to bring us even faster to the intelligent world.

Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) handled an impressive one million tonnes of air cargo in fiscal year 2023-2024, achieving a milestone. The achievement underscores AAHL robust operational capabilities and strategic growth in the aviation industry.
Demonstrating solid growth, AAHL facilitated a remarkable 10,13,115 metric tonnes of cargo in FY 2023-24, capturing an impressive 30.1% market share. This represents a significant 7% y-o-y increase compared to the previous fiscal, when the total cargo tonnage was 9,44,912 metric tonnes.
In FY 2023-2024, AAHL cargo operations were predominantly international – 65% of the cargo managed was international. This showcases AAHL efficiency in managing worldwide operations while maintaining a robust domestic presence. The international cargo tonnage amounted to 6,62,258 metric tonnes, recording a notable 9% y-o-y growth compared to the previous fiscal 6,06,348 metric tonnes.
The cargo operations were driven by commodities, including automobiles, pharmaceuticals, perishables, electricals/electronics, and engineering goods. They were efficiently handled across the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai), the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (Ahmedabad), the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (Lucknow), the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, the Mangaluru International Airport, the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati) and the Jaipur International Airport.

Largest container ship to arrive in India
Mundra Port, the flagship of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India largest port and logistics company, has created yet another record by welcoming the largest container ship ever to call at an Indian port. The vessel, MSC Anna, docked on 26 May, marking a significant milestone for both the port and the country maritime industry.
MSC Anna is an impressive vessel, boasting an overall length of 399.98 m (roughly the length of four football fields) and a staggering capacity of 19,200 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), which makes it the largest container ship by capacity to ever visit an Indian port. Its arrival draft is 16.3 m, which can be accommodated only at Adani Ports, Mundra, as no other port in India is capable of berthing a deep-draft vessel. During its stay, the expected exchange is 12,500 TEUs, underscoring Mundra Port capability to manage largescale cargo efficiently.
In July 2023, Adani Ports, Mundra created a record by berthing MV MSC Hamburg, one of the longest container ships in the world, with overall length of 399 m and capacity of 16,652 TEUs. This demonstrated the port ability to handle the largest ships in the world, and set the stage for the arrival of MSC Anna.
Adani Ports, Mundra record-breaking feats continued into the latter half of 2023. In October, it became the first in India to handle 16 MMT cargo in a single month. Further, its container terminal CT-3 reached a significant milestone by becoming the first in India to manage 3 million TEUs in a year. The terminal also achieved a monthly handling record of over 3,00,000 TEUs in November, the highest ever by any terminal in India.
Adani Ports, Mundra evolution into a vital hub for both domestic and international trade is a testament to its strategic planning and world-class facilities. Spanning over 35,000 acres, it is India largest commercial port, equipped with deep draft and all-weather capabilities. These enable the efficient evacuation of cargo and significantly reduce turnaround times for vessels, making it an attractive destination for major global shipping lines.
The arrival of MSC Anna at Mundra not only highlights the port capacity to handle mega ships but also reflects its pivotal role in enhancing India maritime trade capabilities. As APSEZ continues to expand and upgrade its facilities, the port is set to play an increasingly significant role in the global shipping and logistics landscape.
