Spanish police search football referee headquarters in graft probe

BARCELONA: Police in Spain on Thursday searched the headquarters of the country football referee committee as part of a probe into payments made by Liga giants Barcelona to a firm owned by a former official of the body.
Prosecutors suspect the club paid millions of euros to the company of Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spanish football refereeing committee, between 2001 and 2018, to try to influence referee decisions.

Zinnat exits from the Asian Games

HANGZHOU, China: New York based Bangladeshi boxer Zinnat Ferdous eliminated from the 19th Asian Games boxing event losing to her Mongolian rival Esugen Oyuntsetseg by 5-0 point in the 50kg weight category pre quarterfinal held at Hangzhou Gymnasium on Wednesday.
The judges announced the results after the three rounds and in that result Mongolian boxer Esugen Oyuntsetseg won the match easily. All five judges gave their favor to the Mongolian boxer in every round. As a result Zeenat lost the pre quarterfinal match by 5-0 points.

BCB announces Bangladesh World Cup squad

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the ICC Men Cricket World Cup India 2023 today.
The Bangladesh side will travel to Guwahati tomorrow for two practice matches of the World Cup on September 29 and 2 October 2 against Sri Lanka and England respectively before moving to Dharamshala for the tournament opener against Afghanistan on October 7.

Shanto unfazed by New Zealand challenge
