Bangladesh ensure group stage of WC qualifiers

Bangladesh beat visiting Maldives by 2-1 goals in their second leg of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier held today (Tuesday) at Bashundhara Kings Arena in the city.
Bangladesh had no any alternative option but to win the match after the two teams had a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the World Cup qualifying play-off held in Maldives. The win gave Bangladesh a spot in the group-stage of the World Cup Qualifiers where they were grouped in Group I along with Australia, Palestine, and Lebanon.
Each team will play six matches in a two-legged format meaning Bangladesh will get to play six more international matches in total.

New Chinese football chief elected after corruption probe

BEIJING: A new top leadership for China Football Association was announced on Monday, state media reported, following a corruption probe that has swept up some of the country biggest names in the sport.
Song Kai, formerly of Liaoning province sports bureau, will be the new CFA president, a short article in the People Daily newspaper said.
The CFA also elected a new executive committee at the same meeting in Beijing.

Newly elected BGF gen secy takes charge

Bangladesh Gymnastics Federation (BGF) newly elected general secretary and former student of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan Md. Habibur Rahman Jamil has taken charge today.
The former national team player Jamil received the charge at a first meeting of newly-elected executive committee of BGF held today in the city local hotel.
Habibullah Don and Tanveer Ahmed were newly added to the executive committee as vice presidents.
