Man to die for killing a woman in Joypurhat

JOYPURHAT: A court here today awarded death penalty to a man for burning a woman to death in Awalgari village under Akkelpur upazila of the district in 2009.
Judge of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2, Md. Abbas Uddin pronounced the verdict this afternoon.
The court also fined him Taka 50,000.

3 jailed for consuming hemp in Noakhali

NOAKHALI: A mobile court in separate drives in Sonaimuri upazila of the district today sentenced three youths to jail for different terms for consuming ganja.
The youths were identified as Sumon, 42, Md Jamal Uddin, 32, and Md Mamun, 32. They were the residents in Chashirhat and Dewti areas under Sonaimuri upazila.

700 farmers to get incentive in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR: A total of 700 small and marginal farmers of the district will get seeds and fertilizers free of cost as agricultural incentive for the cultivation of Mashkalai (Black gram) in the current Kharif-2 season.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken an incentive programme for increasing the interest of the farmers in Mashkalai cultivation.
A total of Taka 7,35,000 has been allocated for this purpose, DAE sources said.

Stern action will be taken against anarchists: IGP

BOGURA: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today said stern action will be taken against those who will try to create anarchy and panic among people and vandalize properties.
"Members of the law enforcement agencies will take stern action against those who will be responsible for deteriorating law and order situation by creating anarchy in the country," he told newsmen after inaugurating a modern shopping complex Police Plaza, Bogura here.
