BGB recovers 76kg of hemp in Feni

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 76 kilograms of hemp worth Taka 2,66,000 during an operation on Saturday night in the border area near Champaknagar BOP under Chhagalnaiya upazila of the district. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, captain of the 4 BGB stationed in Feni, confirmed the matter. He said, "After sensing the presence of the BGB, the drug dealers fled the scene, leaving behind the sacks of hemp. The seized hemp was later handed over to the Department of Narcotics Control."

10 martyrs families received cheques in Jhalakathi

District Administration today distributed cheques among the family members of 10 July Uprising martyrs as financial assistance. Deputy Commissioner Ashrafur Rahman handed over the cheques at a function at district administrations auditorium. Each family member has received cheques of Taka two lakh. Police Super Ujjal Kumar Roy, Civil Surgeon Humayun Kabir and Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Imran Shahariar, among others, were present at the event.

11 shops gutted in Chandpur

At least 11 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Bahobiya Bazar under Sadar upazila of the district in the early hours of today. Deputy Assistant Director of Chandpur Fire Service and Civil Defence Syed Morshed Hossen said the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit. Locals said at least 11 shops were burnt down before firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze. Senior Station Officer of Chandpur South Fire Station Md. Shamsul Alam stated that four units of firefighters rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control after one and a half hours of frantic efforts. However, the extent of the damage is yet to be ascertained, he added.

Rajbari district development coordination committee meeting held

A meeting of the District Development Coordination Committee was held today at the auditorium of the Rajbari District Administration. Deputy Commissioner Sultana Akhter presided over the meeting, while Civil Surgeon Dr. SM Masud, Additional Deputy Commissioner Imrul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Russel, Executive Engineer of the Roads Division Md Rajash Khan, and LGED Engineer Md Yusuf Hossain, among others, were present. The meeting focused on various development issues of the district, including infrastructure problems, road communication, electricity, river management, water development, agriculture, irrigation, market systems, fertilizer and seed supply, and the promotion of local onion production. Discussions also covered social services, womens development, vocational training for women, and their technical advancement. The Deputy Commissioner reviewed the issues and sought cooperation from the concerned departments to address the challenges effectively.
