    Govt takes initiatives to enhance BFDCs capacity: Mahfuj
    Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam today said the government has undertaken a range of initiatives to strengthen the capacity of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC). The adviser made the remarks while addressing a focus group discussion organised by BFDC at the meeting room of the ministry. Referring to the countrys large film market, he said that the potential of the film industry must be utilised. For this, people related to the film industry, including BFDC, must work, he added. In addition to the infrastructural development of BFDC, Mahfuj Alam said work should also be done to improve the skills of the officers and employees. The government will provide all-out cooperation in this regard, he said. Mahfuj Alam said film industry stakeholders have shown keen interest in the under-construction film city in Kabirpur. Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana said that the existing infrastructure of BFDC needs to be renovated for shooting along with enhancing the beauty of the under-construction film city in Kabirpur. BFDC Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani, officials of the ministry, directors and producers, among others, were present at the event.

    Six AL activists held in Khulna
    Police arrested six more leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies including district unit AL Vice-President and ex-President of Khulna Lawyers association advocate M M Mujibur Rahman from citys different areas in the last 24 hours. A team of police conducted raids in the Harintana thana area last night and detained them, said Md Ahsan Habib, additional deputy commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) today. The other arrestees are - Robiul Alam Robi, 51, Milon Roy Chowdhury, 53, Borhan Sheikh, 52, Ashit Bagchi, 45 and Bayezid Sheikh, 32. Police arrested them after analyzing video footages and pictures of procession, he said, adding that drives will continue to arrest the accused AL men. On Sunday, AL activists brought out processions at several points in the city, including zero point, Mohila College Road in Boyra. Police on Sunday night filed cases against 300 leaders and activists of the AL and its front organizations with three police stations here.

    Man killed after being run over by train in Narsingdi
    A man was killed after being run over by train in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district. The body was recovered around 3:00 PM on Tuesday from the Joynagar rail crossing area near Daulatkandi railway station. The deceased, Sajal Mia, 40, was the son of Md. Hafiz Uddin from Saltia village in Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh district. According to the railway police, around 8:30 AM on Tuesday, the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Express was passing Daulatkandi railway station when the man fell under the train and was run over. Locals stated that the man was walking along the railway tracks when the incident occurred. His left leg was severed below the knee, and his head and other parts of the body were cut and bruised. Around 2:30 PM, locals noticed the body on the tracks and informed the police. Sub-Inspector Zahurul Islam from Narsingdi Railway Outpost recovered the body from the spot. The body was later taken to the railway outpost, and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) was notified to confirm the identity. PBI members arrived and identified the deceased. Sub-Inspector Zahurul Islam, in-charge of the Narsingdi Railway Outpost, confirmed the victims identity and said efforts are being made to contact his family. The body was sent to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for postmortem.

    2 business establishments fined Tk 25,000 in Nilphamari
    A mobile court in separate drives fined two business establishments Taka 25,000 on various irregularities at different places of Sadar upazila in Nilphamari district on Tuesday. "The Rangpur divisional office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Nilphamari district administration jointly conducted the drive," said a press release. The mobile court fined the two business organizations as per the BSTI Act-2018 and the Weights and Measures Act-2018. Executive Magistrate of Nilphamari district administration Soheli Noshin Prottyasha led the court. During the drives, the court fined Nakib PVC Pipe at Puraton Goruhati area Taka 10,000 for manufacturing and selling PVC pipes without quality certificates. The court also fined Rashida Filling Station near the Forest Department Office area Taka 15,000 for not having a valid calibration chart for underground storage tanks. BSTI Field Officer (Certification Marks) Marufa Begum and Inspector (Metrology) Md. Nasir Uddin from the BSTI Divisional Office in Rangpur served as prosecutors during the drives. "The Rangpur divisional BSTI office will continue such campaigns in the public interest," the release added.
