    Hi-Tech Park to turn Khulna industrial area into tech-based zone: Palak
    KHULNA, June 14: State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said Hi-Tech park will turn the Khulna industrial area into a technology-based zone and create huge employment opportunities for its youths.
    He said this at Khulna Hi-Tech Park foundation stone laying ceremony in the city on Tuesday.
    The State Minister and Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque jointly laid the foundation stone at Tutpara .
    The Hi-Tech Park in Khulna will be constructed on four acares of land at a cost of Tk 170 crore under the Hi-Tech park construction project at district level by the ICT Ministry funded by the Indian government.
    The Hi-Tech park which is expected to be completed by two years will provide training to 1,000 youths and jobs to 3,000 youths.
    Addressing the even Palak said it will have significant contribution in building a smart Bangladesh from a labor-dependent economy to a knowledge-based, developed economy.
    Among others present on the occasion were Khulna-2 MP Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel, Information and Communication Technology Department Senior Secretary NM Ziaul Alam, Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Bikarna Kumar Ghosh, acting Assistant High Commissioner of India to Khulna Asim Kumar Santa and officials concerned of the ICT division.

    BNP wants to create anarchy: Palak
    State minister for information and communication technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has alleged that BNP wants to create anarchy across the country centring the forthcoming parliamentary polls.
    “A peaceful environment is prevailing in the country. But BNP wants to create unrest centring the upcoming national polls. BNP will not be given any chance to create chaos in the country,” he said at a rally at in the Singra upazila town of the district on Saturday.
    Junior minister Palak also said that people will give a befitting reply if they (BNP) resort to any terrorist and violent activities like 2014 to foil the next polls.
    He said there is no political crisis in the country. But BNP has the crisis as their leaders blame each other for being ‘agents’ of the government. Besides, they create violence at their own rallies, he added.
    District Awami League (AL) and its front organisations including Awami Jubo League and Chhatra League brought out a series of protest processions here on Saturday denouncing the death threat against AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
    According to the party sources, the protest processions were brought out in the district town as part of the countrywide protest programme called by the AL to denounce the death threat issued by BNP against its President Sheikh Hasina.
    A large number of workers and leaders of AL and its associate organisations along with local people from all walks of life joined the processions which ended in front of the district AL office in Choto Bazer area here after parading the main roads of the town.

    Farmers get income-generation support in Rajshahi
    RAJSHAHI, June 4: A group of marginalized farmers were given income-generating support aimed at improving their living and livelihood conditions in the district on Saturday.
    Ten farmers were given goats, while two students Taka 12,000 each as education support as part of a two-day long farmers learning fair at Fazar Ali Mollah Degree College playground under Tanore Upazila in the district.
    Regional Office of Caritas Bangladesh hosted the upazila-level mass-awareness generation fair marking its golden jubilee celebration attended by around 500 from different fur-flung areas. Nutrition support project of the organization extended financial assistance to the fair.
    On the occasion, five saplings of fruit trees were transplanted on the college campus.
    Upazila Chairman Lutfor Haider Rashid, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pankaz Chandra Debnath, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sikrity Pramanik, Union Parishad Chairman Ataur Rahman and Caritas Regional Director Sukleash George Costa addressed the opening ceremony.

    Councillor arrested for rape attempt in Gazipur
    GAZIPUR, June 3: Police arrested a councillor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) on Friday for allegedly trying to rape a woman.
    The arrestee was identified as Farooq Ahmed, 50.
    A case was filed in this regard on Friday, said Jabed Masud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi East Police Station.
    According to the statement, Farooq was in a relationship with a woman. On May 23, she went to Farooq’s house to meet him.
    There, Farooq tried to rape her, finding her alone in his house. He fled the spot as neighbours arrived hearing her screams.
    On Friday morning, the victim lodged a written complaint. Based on the complaint, Farooq was arrested at noon from his home in the Ershad Nagar area of the city.
    The arrestee will be produced before the court on Saturday morning, the OC added.
