    Sailor goes missing after falling from ship in Karnaphuli river
    Dulal Mia, a sailor went missing after slipping from a fishing vessel in citys Karnaphuli River last night. The Navy Police, Fire Service and Coast Guard are jointly carrying out the rescue operation. However, the sailor could not be found till this afternoon. Sadarghat Naval police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ekram Ullah confirmed the matter and said Dulal Mia inadvertently slipped between two vessels and fell into the Karnaphuli river around 10 pm on Saturday while boarding the FV Partex-1 vessel in the citys Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) Jetty number 1. The missing Dulal Mia is the son of Abdur Rab of Char Jabbar police station under Noakhali district. He was working on the fishing vessel FV Partex-1. OC Ekram Ullah said fire service divers; coast guard and Sadarghat Naval police went to the spot and carried out rescue operation. The rescue operations are on, the sources said.

    Five arrested over killing of Easy Bike driver in Khulna
    Police arrested five individuals from different areas on Friday (April 18) in connection with the killing of an Easy Bike driver in Khulna last month. Md Khairul Anam, Additional Superintendent of Police, said two police teams carried out drives in Chattogram, Jashore, and Khulna, and arrested five suspects over the killing of Mohidul Shaikh alias Milon, 38, an Easy Bike driver. The arrestees are Shariful Sheikh, 45, Md Rafsan, 24, Md Enam, 23, Md Gafur Fakir, 43, and Monjurul Sarder, 42. On March 13, Milons decomposed body was recovered from an orchard beside the bank of the Vadra River in the Uttar Govindakathi area of Dumuria upazila in the district. A case was filed next day with Dumuria Police Station in this connection. Khairul Anam said police launched an operation to track down the accused involved in the clueless murder. He added that the arrestees gave confessional statements before a Magistrate under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) today. According to their confessions, on March 13, Rafsan and Enam rented Milons Easy Bike from the Atharomile kitchen market area. When the vehicle reached the Govindakathi Eidgah area, Shariful and Monjurul-who had been waiting there-got into the vehicle and strangled Milon. Later, the four sold the Easy Bike to another accused, Gafur Fakir, according to the confessional statements.

    Met office predicts rain across some districts
    The met office forecast rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind at a few places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places across the remaining divisions for the next 24 hours, beginning from 9:00am today. Weatherman Shahanaj Sultana predicted day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country during this period. The rainfall activity may increase by five days, a met office bulletin said. The highest temperature 34.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Bagabari in Rajshahi division on Saturday. Tetulia in Rangpur division has experienced the lowest temperature 19.6 degree Celsius today. The sun will set at 6:22pm today and rise at 5:32am tomorrow in Dhaka.

    390 arrested in joint forces drives from 10-17 April
    The joint forces, including different units of infantry divisions and independent brigades of Bangladesh Army, in separate raids have arrested 390 criminals across the country and recovered a huge number of arms and ammunition, sharp weapons and different drugs from their possessions. "A total of 390 criminals, including listed terrorists, robbers, extortionists, fugitive accused, muggers, teen gang members, drug traders and drug addicts, were arrested in the drives. Ten illegal weapons, 46 ammunitions, different types of drugs, local-made weapons, snatched mobile phones and laptops, foreign currencies and cash were recovered from their possessions," said a post published on the verified Facebook page of Bangladesh Army. The sources said the arrestees were handed over to concerned police stations after primary interrogations. Apart from these, Bangladesh Army units carried out patrolling and conducted safety activities across the country marking the Pahela Baishakh. They also provided overall security following some untoward incidents like vandalizing and looting of different business centres.
