    Man gets life for raping in Rajshahi
    RAJSHAHI: One person has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison on charge of raping a baby around three years back in the district.
    The convict identified as Bazlur Rahman, 40, son of late Chand Sheikh of Maria village under Durgapur upazila was also fined Taka two lakh. The court asked the concerned authority to give the fine money to the victim.
    Judge of the women and child repression prevention tribunal-2 Muhammad Hasanuzzaman found the accused guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict today.
    The prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused raped the baby forcibly.

    RMP works relentlessly for sound traffic system: police officials
    RAJSHAHI:Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) today arranged an awareness meeting on traffic rules at its traffic division office premises for drivers and guardians to promote a sound traffic system in the city.
    High police officials at the meeting said they have been working relentlessly for promoting a sound traffic system as road accident brings long-lasting pains and sufferings to many families.
    The meeting also put stress on raising awareness on road safety among people to control accidents.
    However, integrated efforts of all concerned, including driver, helper, guardians and community people, has become crucial to ensure the road safety, speakers said.

    Aush harvesting going on in full swing in Manikganj
    MANIKGANJ: The harvesting of Aush paddy is going on in full swing in all seven Upazilas of the district, the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said.
    During the current season Aush was cultivated on 3731 hectares of land which is 731 hectares more than the previous year.
    Earlier, a total of 4,000 small and marginal farmers got seed and fertilizer as incentives from the government for boosting the production of Aush paddy in the district during the current season.
    DAE office sources said Aush paddy generally grows on alluvial soil and the cultivators are interested to cultivate the Aush paddy as they are getting good production. The government has been continuing the support to cultivate more land in the district.

    Tree fair gets momentum in Khulna
    KHULNA: The Tree Fair and Campaign being held at Khulna Circuit House ground is gaining momentum.
    The 15 days long tree fair started on July 27 and has been extended for another 13 days though it was supposed to end on August 10. Due to huge rush, the fair has been extended till 23 August.
    The tree fair has been designed with 32 stalls of tree saplings and 29 other stalls including handicraft, book stall and fast-food shops.
    A total of 41,048 different species of seedlings worth Taka 48,83,170 have been sold till yesterday, source said.
    Khulna district administration and Sundarban West Forest Department jointly organized the fair.
