Fire guts shops in Gopalganj

TUNGIPARA, Gopalganj: At least three shops were gutted in a fire at Kacharivita Bazar in Kandi union under Kotalipara upazila of the district early hours of today.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit of a grocery store around 1.45am and soon engulfed other adjacent shops. As a result, three shops were completely gutted, Md. Sirajul, in-charge of Kotalipara Fire Station and Civil Defense said.

Over 500 CC cameras to be installed at KU: VC

KHULNA: Over 500 Close Circuit Cameras (CCTVs) will be installed in the entire campus of Khulna University (KU) under a project of soft infrastructure to ensure the e-security system.
“The CC cameras will be monitored round the clock from the security surveillance room,” Vice-Chancellor of the KU Professor Dr Mahmud Hossain yesterday said as chief guest while addressing a opening ceremony of the security personnel skill enhancement training titled Drive for a Better Safety and Security System.

International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction observed in Bogura

BOGURA: The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction-2023 was observed in the district today like elsewhere in the country in a befitting manner.
The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction is being observed since 1989, after a call by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) for a day to promote a global culture of risk awareness and disaster reduction. In 2009, the UNGA officially designated October 13 as the date to commemorate the day.

Construction work on Gollamari bridge begins

KHULNA: Construction works on Gollamari Bridge in the city begins today.
Parliament member of Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salahuddin Zwel laid the foundation stone of the construction works of the bridge while mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque addressed as the chief guest.
