Army-police joint drives seize drugs from KUET dormitories

Members of army and police here today in various drives seized liquor and drugs from different dormitories of Khulna University and Engineering and Technology (KUET).
During the drive that began at 10 am and continued till the afternoon, law enforcement agencies recovered bottles of wine and drug using materials in different rooms which were under controlled by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men, Dr Md Sultan Mahmud, director of KUET Student Welfare told BSS.

Tk7.22cr collected in donation boxes of Pagla mosque

The authorities today (17 August) collected a total of Tk7,22,13,046 in 28 sacks of cash after opening nine donation boxes at the Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj.
Additional District Magistrate of Kishoreganj Mizabe Rahmat told The Shuttle Times that the counting started at 8:30am and ended at 7:00pm.
The donation boxes were opened in the presence of Brigadier General Tariqul Islam of Bangladesh Army, Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj Abul Kalam Azad and Superintendent of Kishoreganj Police Mohammad Russel Sheikh, he added.

Benapole-Khulna-Mongla commuter train resumes operation

The Khulna-Benapole-Mongla commuter train has started its operation today after 11 days shut down during quota reforms in government services and anti-discrimination students movement.
The Rail Way authority stopped the operation on Khulna-Benapole-Mongla route from last July seeming people security during country wide anarchy, vandalism and arson activities.
The Betna express has also resumed its operation on August 1, but the authority closed its operation till August 3 while law and order situation were deteriorated.

Gas found at a new location in Noakhali

Gas has been found at a new location in Begumganj gas field through drilling a well.
According to state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex), the testing results in the Begumganj-4 (West) well are showing a good prospect for the gas field.
"We hope, initially it will produce 10-15 million cubic feet (MMCFD) of gas per day," Bapex Managing Director Md Shoyeb said.
